This happens to be a very small coffee shop about 100 meters off of Jl. Kaliurang. I first stumbled across it when visiting a friend’s kost (boarding house), but since have returned several times for it’s uniqueness and great coffee.

Character (4)

I must say as far as character is concerned, this place is going to be hard to beat. It’s certainly unique and even humorous as seen by this sign found above the toilet.

The personality of whoever started this shop can be seen everywhere. It’s small (only 4 or 5 tables inside and a bar), but it’s plenty cozy. The decorations around the shop are certainly worth a look and a read.

There are also a few tables outside, although I’ve never used them. I will say though that it is far enough away from Jakal that noise from the road isn’t bad.

Comfort (2)

The seats, as you can see, are nothing special. They’re quite hard and can be a bit uncomfortable after a while. However, the AC is great!

I’ve never used the wifi there, but I have picked it up on my phone across the street at Olive Fried Chicken. That says something, right?

The other main drawback is that sometimes it can be smoky inside because it’s so small. It’s not really much of a problem unless they’re directly next to you, but it’s so small, chances are they will be. It’s kind of hit or miss on that front.

Coffee (4)

This little place makes some great coffee. You can find single origin coffee from around Indonesia here, and can have it your way, with pretty much any brewing style you wish. So far, I have only had the Aeropress, and as expected, it was great.

Price: Rp. 17k, 23k, 27k (depending on brewing method: Aeropress, 23k)

Brewing Methods: Any way you like (Siphon, V60, Aero/French Press, etc.)

Single Origin? six different Indonesian coffees to pick from

Overall Rating: 4

Recommended? Definitely

The overall rating here was pushed down by the fact that there are not always seats available and can sometimes be smoky/hot. Aside from that, this is a must visit! When it’s smoke-free, this is hands down the best coffee shop I’ve been to (out of about twelve so far). It’s not an all-day kind of place (at least for me because of the chairs), but for a couple of hours, it’s hard to top. Make it smoke-free and throw in some comfy chairs, and this is a 10! I’m still early in my search, but I dare to say that there is no better combination of character and coffee in all of Jogja.
